Why Does My Circuit Breaker Keep Tripping With Nothing Plugged In?
A breaker can trip with “nothing” plugged in if there’s a wiring fault, a failing breaker, a short to ground, or moisture in a box. GFCI/AFCI devices can also trip from ground or arc faults on the circuit even with outlets empty. Hidden loads on the same circuit (like hardwired lights) may be overloading it. For safety, avoid repeated resets and have a licensed electrician inspect the panel and wiring.
Quick checks:
- Reset once. If it trips again, stop.
- Test and reset GFCI outlets.
- Look for moisture or scorch marks.
