What should I do first when a circuit breaker trips in my home?

First, turn off and unplug devices on the affected circuit, then fully switch the tripped breaker OFF and back ON to reset it. If it trips again immediately, stop and call a licensed electrician. If a GFCI or AFCI outlet is on that line, press its Reset button. Avoid using warm or buzzing outlets.

  • Unplug loads on that circuit
  • Reset breaker OFF → ON once
  • Reset any GFCI/AFCI
  • If it trips again, call us (don’t force it) Service available in Milwaukee and Waukesha.
